Artist Act in protest against the demolition of the building
Tiago Mata Machado
Melissa Dullius, Gustavo Jahn, Jeane Doucas
BERLIN - Brazilian multimedia filmmaker Tiago Mata Machado'sthe inhabitants is a collection of didactic sketches, performed by a group of men, women and children in protest against the demolition of a building. The film consists of energetic scenes of performance art, instructions directly to the camera, jokes, mimes and songs with messages with ethics, aesthetics and politics to do. If perhaps resonant in Portuguese, beat the English subtitles to convey what may also be significant.
Appreciation for the screen activity is therefore considerably reduced and much of it is incomprehensible. The film is not likely to attention of the domestic market arts audience.
Without helpful voice-over or narration, the film shows a seemingly peaceful demonstration, which reflects what would happen on the streets, when the demonstrators to take arms for their cause. Mime in a sketch - the members of the armed forces shoot to take automatic weapons and hand grenades.
This is a much better approach than the real thing, it must be said, but the result is more confusing than informative and entertaining.
