Oscar Meryl streep, music producer, Quincy Jones, James Taylor, To Kill a Mockingbird author Harper Lee and winner of National Book Award Joyce Carol Oates are among the 20 recipients of this year's White House 2010 National Humanities Medal and the National Medal of ArtsIt was announced Tuesday.
President Barack Obama is ready to present the medals, which are the highest honors of the American Government, data to scholars and artists, on Wednesday in a ceremony at the White House East room. First Lady Michelle obama will also attend
In addition to Streep, Taylor and Jones, more artists who receive a National Medal of arts include playwright Robert brustein, poet Donald Hall and pianist Van Cliburn, among others.
Oates will accept a National Humanities Medal along with other luminaries such as biographer Arnold Rampersad, historian Jacques Barzun culture and novelist Wendell Berry and, among others.
