The event: TV review

>> Tuesday, 1 March 2011

Have watched the two new hours that make up the special, ahem, relaunch, "event" is still a chore to see.

Broadcast:

Monday, March 7, 9-11 hours a day, (NBC)

When NBC's big autumn series the event premiered, got it to what was characterized as "generally favorable" reviews. In a post-lost world, it was pretty clear, had some display the empty of serialized to behavior to fill paranormal, and event was the next candidate (successor of ABC's FlashForward, the last season in the tar sands). Not in contrast to the "I Want to Believe" poster in Fox Mulder's Office on the X-files want to really believe in something viewers and even critics größerem-- a story full of mystery, excitement and suspense, from another world away, we say, Law & order. For a certain kind of Viewer, there is a thirst for a serialized drama that slowly puts together a complex puzzle. What some networks and cable channels seem to get how important it is to plan such a show is.

This should be of particular interest and provide viewers expected two new series, Terra Nova on Fox and sky fall on TNT. (Both have a Steven Spielberg - line). Terra Nova comes in may on the last day of the so-called TV season, in one of this galling previews, where you then wait for the pilot, until September for the rest of the series cm kick (it did try again good for Gleeweshalb Fox's plan is.) Falling sky comes in June. Both shows looked interesting clips shown to TV critics in January.

And yet, if either stumble starts as event, forget it. The show premiere Sept. 20 for a healthy 11 million viewers and ran six weeks straight, a forgivable week started, then returned for another four weeks to November 29. The problem is, a month in the execution, event, half lost viewers, but NBC gave it a full season pick-up, a week before anyway (the people who have that has been fired since then have).

Now event from the air a full 14 weeks have been. In the world of serialized shows such a long break is the kiss of death. NBC wanted to bring it back a week earlier, but decided to wait until 7 March. Why not? No one remembers that what happens in the damn show anyway. You bring it could all-nude-episode again with a live, and it would get not yet a decent review.

These types of shows must be scheduled in the same way that ABC and Fox Finally, planned lost and 24, two large serialized hits, which in this way have been mostly because you not only in the January premiere and were able, all their consequences almost continuously until the end of the season in the air. No endless wait. Not this hokey "winter finale"-matter.

As for event, the start was very confusing, with time lines a thing jump back and forth, but pretty soon become clear: the show was not very good. As Sean, his girlfriend, Leila (Sarah Roemer), disappears as it stars has to propose Jason Knight on her on a cruise. He accidentally meets Sean's crazy pursuit of her is called NBC "the biggest cover-up in U.S. history." Finally, viewers learned that the cover-up is a set of foreigners, which fell 66 years, under the direction of Sophia (Laura Innes), who befriends the US President (Blair Underwood) in the US with. The aliens are good people, says to you, and you just want to go home. (It's a neat trick, not age.)

The problem with event is that, despite the use of aliens and Government conspiracies of the lowest order, the intrigue never really you hook. Knight and Romans much not you believe that you can save the world from which also deeply, dark fate out there is - and NBC says it is out there, but 10 episodes in, are all what we really have, good foreigners that have found out that not all of them are good. So if you are at home are, it is a little bit of 24, a little bit of lost, bit some of StarWars, a little bit, well, a lot of things. But lackluster writing and WinCE-induzierende not be simply that hodgepodge influences work right.

Have watched the two new hours, making that particular, ahem, relaunch, inadequately dealt with these problems. Event is still a chore to see.

But one day one really deserves, are richly textured and creatively demanding new sci fi series, and critics and viewers can only hope the networks or cable channels are intelligent enough, to plan it with care.

Otherwise, you get lost.
